Here is the recipe that I recommend for Shakeology “newbies” and it works for any flavor:
Shakeology for Newbies
1 serving Shakeology (1 full scoop or 1 packet)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or skim milk)
1/2 to 1 cup water
handful of ice
And be sure to use a blender! I’ve experimented with a lot of different recipes but this is the tried and true recipe that I always come back to. Of course, everyone is a little different so you should experiment with different recipes too! I just recommend using this recipe as a starting point. I use a mini-blender for my Shakeology because I drink it everyday and the clean-up literally takes less than 2 minutes! In the past I used a regular blender which works fine too but the clean up was a bit more tedious plus it’s kind of annoying when you have a blender sitting out on your counter ALL THE TIME.
Since I like my Shakeology with a little bit of extra water and the mini-blender cup isn’t big enough to hold it all, I blend all the ingredients listed above with as much water as the cup will hold without overflowing. Then after blending I pour the mixture into a 24 oz. cup and I’ll add more water until I get the consistency I like. I should really make a video demonstration but in the meantime here’s a picture!
A quick note about vanilla: I’ll be honest, vanilla is probably my least favorite flavor but some people really love it! It just seems to have too much of a Stevia aftertaste to me. To cut back on that on a bit I’ll typically add about 1/4 teaspoon Himalayan salt. If the Stevia aftertaste bothers you too give that a try and see if it helps!
Something to Keep in Mind
One full serving may be too much for your digestive system to handle at once if you’ve never had Shakeology before. It’s potent stuff! It works like little scrubbing bubbles for your intestinal tract, and too much can…well, you get the picture! 🙂 In some cases Shakeology needs to be gradually introduced to your digestive system. For some people, experiencing digestive sensitivities is a normal part of the cleansing process especially if you have a history of not eating well.
In that case, I recommend starting off with only 1/2 serving Shakeology (you may need to use less liquid to prevent the shake from becoming too runny). Over a period of a few days you can slowly start to increase the serving size as your body adjusts If you need to add more liquid in addition to the one cup of milk it’s best to use water otherwise you will just be adding more calories to your shake.
For some people, this period of adjustment could take as long as 3 months. This just means your body is working hard to eliminate the junk that has been built up in your system over several years. These things won’t get flushed out in one day or even one week.

When is the Best Time to Drink Shakeology?
I recommend you replace the weakest meal of your day (the one you skip or tend to overeat) with Shakeology. For example, if you have a habit of skipping breakfast use that opportunity to drink Shakeology. Or maybe you’ve established a habit of always eating fast-food for lunch? Or do you always pig out at dinner? Which meal you choose is a personal preference that depends on your habits and daily routine. My best advice is to choose the meal you feel you need the most help with.
How to Order More Shakeology
If you decide you love it and want to order more (and you will!) the most effective way to purchase Shakeology is by ordering the bulk bag on monthly autoship since you receive discounted shipping. You can contact customer service after placing your order to change your flavor and arrange to have your Shakeology sent every 45 or 60 days if that works better than the standard 30 days. Just make sure you contact them at least 48 hours before your order is scheduled to ship so they have enough time to make the changes.
Either way, I recommend trying Shakeology for at least 30 days in a row before making your decision. The best way to see how well Shakeology is going to work for you is to include it in your daily nutrition plan for 30-90 days. If you just drink it helter-skelter your body will not be able to fully utilize the ingredients. That would be just like working out every so often whenever you felt like it, and expecting to see amazing results. It’s better than nothing…but not ideal!
