NOTE: This post was originally written in October 2010, but I’ve added more information recently to reflect some of the experience I’ve gained during the past few years! (May 2014)
If you’ve seen my Facebook page during the past few months you’ve probably seen my updates about my crazy P90X workouts. I still remember the first time I saw a P90X infomercial on TV. I thought Tony Horton was crazy along with anyone else who would subject themselves to such torture! Fast forward three years and here I am a P90X graduate and marathon runner!
On the outside my P90X transformation may be not as dramatic as others you’ve seen, but what they don’t tell you on the infomercial is how much getting into the best shape of your life can COMPLETELY change your outlook on life. As much as you might change on the outside, so much more happens on the INSIDE. It’s hard to explain if you haven’t experienced it yourself but it’s a real GAME CHANGER!
I’ve never considered myself to be overweight or obese. For the most part I’ve always thought of myself as sort of AVERAGE. People would often look at me and say, “You don’t need to lose any weight” but Au contraire! I knew better. I was 33 years old and after being married for almost 10 years, I had definitely entered my COMFORT ZONE. I was content to eat fast food several times a week and after working long shifts at work, I only wanted to plop down on the couch when I got home. It was a vicious cycle of eating crappy food, feeling tired and taking naps . . . that repeated itself over and over again . . . day after day.
One morning I noticed that I was having a hard time pulling my scrub pants over my thighs and I knew SOMETHING had to be done, PRONTO. Since I’m not the kind of person who just eases her way gently into a project, I knew I wanted to try P90X. In fact, forget the word TRY. I was going to DO IT!
P90X inspired me so much and I was already sharing my success with SO many other people (5 of my co-workers decided to try it) that I decided to become an Independent Team Beachbody coach. Plus I wanted to do Insanity and I thought getting 25% off the program and Shakeology would be a pretty smart thing to do!
In case you didn’t know, Beachbody is the company that makes P90X as well as other popular workout programs like Insanity, Turbo Jam, Slim in 6, and many, many others. They are a company that is truly dedicated to improving people’s lives. They are not into selling quick fixes but are teaching people how to live a healthy lifestyle through a combination of proper nutrition (not DIETS) and exercise.
I have to admit, I was really skeptical about the coaching opportunity at first. As a blogger and internet marketer, everything I’ve ever heard about multi-level marketing (MLM) has been negative. In fact, when I first signed up as a coach I didn’t tell anyone because I was too embarrassed!
But P90X has made such a positive impact on my life that I knew becoming a coach was the right thing for me to do. And I couldn’t get the idea of coaching out of my head, despite the fact that I always thought it was all about sales. I quickly learned that being a coach is SO much more than just selling a product and pushing people to buy. Just these past few months I’ve met SO many people that I otherwise would never have known if it wasn’t for P90X and Beachbody. And I’m having fun!
Beachbody does not sell its products through retail stores because there is no accountability once you pull the product off the shelf. Beachbody wanted to give their customers a support channel they could use to increase their odds of success. This support channel consists of coaches (who at one time were customers too) that help people stay motivated, accountable, and answer any questions about their fitness and nutrition products. It’s sort of like the health and fitness version of Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, etc. but SO much better because you are playing an active role in changing people’s lives!
When I first became a coach I was more interested in getting the discount and I thought this was just something I could do for a hobby. But since that time it’s turned into WAY more than that. Now, being a coach is all about freedom and being able to do the things I want to do, when I want to do them.
