I’m pretty sure everyone on the face of the earth can agree that the best nutrition comes from whole food sources. But seriously, unless you’re Wonder Woman or Superman (or have enough money to hire your own personal chef) who has enough time to prepare a healthy meal from fresh ingredients for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner seven days a week? Let’s get realistic….it AIN’T gonna happen!
Of course you don’t want to drink a meal replacement shake for EVERY meal, but it’s a far better option than many other types of “convenience” foods when you’re in a a time crunch. Since food is the most important piece of the weight loss puzzle (exercise comes in second), skipping meals is not going to move you in the right direction. Your diet requires the optimal amounts of macronutrients (protein, fat, carbs) in order to function properly.
So, what is the BEST meal replacement shake for weight loss?
The most important factor when comparing different brands is the NUTRIENT DENSITY of the shake. What does that mean? Well, nutrient density refers to how many nutrients are in the food compared to the number of calories. Nutrient-dense foods have lots of nutrients packed into fewer calories.
Here’s a diagram that shows the difference between having a bagel with cream cheese and coffee for breakfast vs. eggs and raspberries. You’ll see that the bagel breakfast contains a lot of calories but few nutrients. So it’s no surprise that shortly after eating this for breakfast you’re hungry a short time later. On the other hand, the eggs and raspberries contain a lot of nutrients but few calories. So this type of breakfast will keep you feeling full longer. Making smart choices like this consistently over time is how people lose weight. It’s NOT rocket science!!
Keeping the concept of nutrient density in mind, let’s compare several different types of meal replacement shakes on the market.
Looking at the chart above it’s pretty obvious that Shakeology delivers the most nutrients per calorie. Let’s face it, the majority of meal replacement shakes rarely replace anything except temporary bad feelings about what you just ate. It might feel good to skip lunch and chug a shake, but an hour later it’s easy to grab the cookies you “had to have” at 2:30 pm because your shake just didn’t fill you up. The worst part is you end up feeling justified eating the junk because you ate “healthy” at lunchtime.
That is not a picture of healthy living. If you desire to truly get a healthy alternative to a meal without sacrificing nutrition Shakeology is the real deal. It will keep you feeling full while maximizing your caloric intake. In fact, Shakeology is so nutrient-dense that some people (myself included) feel satisfied with only half-serving. That means you can either have two shakes per day or your bag of Shakeology lasts twice as long.
Really, it’s no loss to me if you look at the chart above and decide that Shakeology isn’t for you. But aren’t you at least the tiniest bit curious about it? What does it taste like? Can it REALLY help you lose weight? The only way to know for sure is to try it for at least 30 days. What’s the worst thing that can happen??
If you order through my website I’ll even contact you a week before your 30 days is up to make sure you like it. And if it’s not what you expected Beachbody will refund your money. Besides the pounds, you have nothing to lose. 🙂
