Well, two weeks ago at work I got a rather interesting phone call from my husband, Jimmy. Keep in mind that me and my husband are not really phone people. Unlike a lot of couples we don’t call each other a gazillion times a day. When Jimmy calls me at work it’s usually something important. So I was a bit concerned when he called me late one evening. Our conversation went something like this:
Jimmy: Hey I know it’s supposed to snow tonight but I just wanted to let you know that you can’t park in the garage when you get home.
Amanda: Why?
Jimmy: It’s filled with bathroom things.
Amanda thinks, did he go out and buy a new TUB? We were talking about remodeling the bathroom . . . He didn’t go out and buy a new tub without me did he?
Amanda: What kind of bathroom things?
Jimmy: Oh, just the old tub and some broken glass.
Amanda: What?
Jimmy: Yeah, I ripped out the old tub and while I was doing that I kinda broke the window. So I just wanted to let you know before you came home so you didn’t hurt yourself and trip over the tub in the garage or something.
I don’t really remember the rest of the conversation. Mostly because I was a bit dazed and confused by then. For the past few months we’ve had this really annoying leak in the bathtub faucet that we couldn’t fix without tearing out the whole wall. I think it finally got the best of Jimmy and he just decided to demo the bathroom. I’m the kinda person who likes to have a plan worked out before tackling a big project but Jimmy is a learn as you go kinda guy.
So anyway, luckily we have a second full bath we can use in the meantime . . . After he pulled out the old tub enclosure we discovered an issue our house is having with ice damming in that corner of the bathroom. Not much we can do about it until spring time (the previous homeowner built our house and messed up the roof in that spot we later found out). Good thing is we now know about the problem and can get it fixed! So far we have the new tub installed and Jimmy re-did almost all the piping for the tub and shower. Turns out the leak was caused by something else the previous homeowner screwed up!
I’m trying to keep track of our progress by taking pictures. Sorry I don’t have any BEFORE photos but hey–the old tub is sitting in the garage where my car is supposed to be so you can come over and take a look if you REALLY wanna see it!
