DO I HAVE TO BE SALES-Y?
I think this question comes up for two reasons:
1) A lot of people who are involved in any kind of sales-related industry are not skilled in their profession, and come off as obnoxious and uncaring. We’ve all dealt with this on more than one occasion and it’s very frustrating and annoying.
2) When we wish to avoid sounding sales-y, it often comes from the mindset that one person is pressuring someone else to do something that is not good for them. Of course it’s very difficult to feel good about that, right? Fortunately for us, this business is all about ENCOURAGING people to do what IS good for them–i.e. get healthier! The person you work with is the PRIMARY winner. The fact that you are compensated is secondary. If you always remember that the other person comes FIRST, then I don’t see how you would come off as sales-y.
Make sense?
