When I first signed up as a coach the one thing that confused me the most was the Team Cycle Bonus. I knew that it was really important, but it seemed like something that existed in a magical land somewhere far-far away.
As a new coach you don’t have to understand all the nitty gritty details, but it’s important to have a general idea of how it works because when it comes to making a substantial LONG-TERM income in this business, it’s all about the team cycle bonus. Sales from customers are GREAT, don’t get me wrong! But if you want to make Beachbody a full-time career you also need to work on building a TEAM.
Of course as a NEW coach you can’t expect to have a big team, nor know how to lead a team yet. Therefore there’s no opportunity YET to be making much of a team bonus. But that’s the key word…YET.
As a new coach the first checks you’ll see will be commissions from sales you refer through your TBB account. And just so you know, there are usually larger commissions on Challenge Packs. BUT..I still don’t think you should lead with any agenda to sell…just be really familiar with all of the solutions you have for people in regards to fitness and nutrition so that you’re prepared to offer it as a suggestion when they make mention of their issue/problem/goal. And when finances are an issue, realize you have THAT as a solution too because you have a business opportunity where they build it WHILE they’re on a journey to get healthy and fit.
And always remember, in the LONG run the relationship and trust that you build with a person is WAY more valuable compared to the commission you’ll receive on a one-time sale. Very-VERY important!!
TIP: Need help becoming familiar with all the solutions you have for people in regards to fitness and nutrition? If you want the nitty-gritty details on how the team cycle bonus works you’ll find all you need to know in the Policies and Procedures guide in the back office. >> http://tbbcoa.ch/TBB_CompPlan (An explanation of the compensation plan begins on page 32 of the guide.)
But it really wasn’t until I watched this video that it all made sense to me. To this day I still have no idea who Cole Stephens is, but I would love to thank him for making this video because it sort of made it all CLICK for me! haha
(To view your team volume go to MY BUSINESS >> MY VOLUME)
And here’s a couple more videos that might help:
1. Jenelle Summers (kinda hard to see the board but her explanations are still good).

2. Michael Niemand (I like the action figures!)

Hopefully now you have a better idea of how the team cycle bonus works and why it’s so important for your business!

Coach Placement
Since we’re talking about the team cycle bonus, now would be a good time to talk about where is the best place to put coaches when you sign them up. Don’t worry, it’s really not that complicated! There is just one CRUCIAL step that you need to remember, which we’ll talk about shortly.
As we learned in the videos, your downline as a coach contains a left leg and a right leg. It’s important to understand the proper way to build your downline before you start adding coaches to your team. Placement strategy is one of the most important parts of your business to understand because it can have such a huge impact on both you and your coaches’ success.
When you are building your team always think FAR AND WIDE. Basically, what this means is that you’re always going to build the OUTSIDE legs of your coaches. Whenever you add a new coach, make sure you place them on the outside leg of the person above them as illustrated in the picture below.

Let’s say you’re a new coach and you sign-up Jim on your left leg and Jane on your right leg. Now, let’s say that you already have 2 more people ready to signup. You are really rockin’ the business! GREAT job! 🙂
Now, remember that both Jim and Jane have a right and a left leg. Since we are incorporating the Far and Wide strategy, the next coach that we place on the left leg will go on Jim’s left leg and the next coach we place on the right leg will go on Jane’s right leg.
Incorporating the Far and Wide Strategy means that each personally sponsored coach that YOU sign-up will have a “strong” outside leg. If each coach uses the same strategy, you will be able to create a super-strong outside leg, which can lead to many volume points on that leg. Your job is to build up your weaker leg to cycle more and take advantage of all the volume points on your outside (stronger) leg.
Now, all that being said, you don’t want to rely 100% on your upline and other coaches on your team to place other coaches underneath you to build your team volume. If this happens…GREAT, that is a nice bonus. But it’s a mistake to rely on it. In fact, some of the most successful coaches in this business (like Jenelle Summers and Lindsay Matway for example) did not have anyone in their upline helping them. Just know that it’s up to YOU to build your two legs. Otherwise, think about the people that YOU sponsor and place in your weaker leg, how would you explain the team building process to them?
At the end of the day, as long as YOU are working on building both legs that’s the major factor in the success of your business!!
Don’t forget the requirements to move up in rank:
EMERALD: 1 active coach on each leg (2 total coaches)
RUBY: 1 Emerald coach on each leg and plus 2 more active coaches (1 in each leg)
DIAMOND: 4 coaches on each leg (8 total coaches) and there has to be an Emerald Coach on each leg.
NOTE: many people end up skipping RUBY and going right from Emerald to Diamond.

(For additional information on the requirements for different coach ranks please refer to the Coach Policies and Procedures guide that I posted earlier.)

OK, THIS IS THE **REALLY** IMPORTANT PART!!!
Hopefully you already did this when you went through your new coach checklist…great job! If not, NOW is definitely the time to do it!!
In order to place new coaches in the correct position, you must set your preferred placement in your coach office. To set preferred placement, go to MY BUSINESS >> MY PREFERRED PLACEMENT.
You want to make sure that the SET PREFERRED PLACEMENT option is selected, and the position is set to either LEFT or RIGHT and NOT any of the other choices. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC PLACEMENT! If you use the automatic placement it will put coaches on the INSIDE of your legs instead of the outside. You don’t need a placement ID but if you want to put something in there you can just use your coach ID but it’s not necessary. The most important thing is that you have SET PREFERRED PLACEMENT selected and the position is set to either LEFT or RIGHT.
If you want to check that you’ve done this correctly you can visit your graphical genealogy. Go to MY BUSINESS >> MY DOWNLINE >> GRAPHICAL GENEALOGY. You will see where your next coach is scheduled for placement outlined in red. (I think it looks like a bowling pin!) If you need to change something you can do so in the upper right corner of the screen.
OOPS! I PUT A COACH IN THE WRONG SPOT! CAN I CHANGE IT??
If for some reason you have a new coach sign-up and they are in the wrong position, you have 3 business days (72 hours) to contact coach relations and change their position. After 72 hours has passed you can no longer move a coach.
You’ll want to use the email form here: https://faq.beachbody.com/app/ask/lob/team and select PLACEMENT CHANGE as your request. Tell them your name and coach ID #, the name and ID # of the new coach that just signed up, and then the new position (right or left) that you would like them to go. The change will typically take effect within 24-48 hours.

Has Your Head Exploded Yet?
I know it probably seems super-complicated right now, but as your team grows and you watch the rest of the team grow, you’ll get a better picture of how it all works. And as long as you keep your placement set to either LEFT or RIGHT as you build up to your next rank that’s pretty much all you have to worry about.
By building your team this way, each coach will earn team volume points from every single coach below them. This is because you all receive team volume points from every single coach that is placed on your leg, and every coach they get as well. Your goal is now to build your OTHER leg so that you can cycle and take advantage of all the points you’ve received from other coaches. It’s just like they say…TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!
Understand that when other coaches are placed under you, they are NOT your personally sponsored coaches. You still need to get your own personally sponsored coaches to move up in rank. For example, coaches above you in the organization could place numerous coaches under you in a month, but you still need to have one active personally sponsored coach in each leg to become an Emerald Coach.
Once you reach Diamond level, you can then load up your weak leg to cycle more. Because you may only have to really focus on one leg, this more than justifies you placing people on your weaker leg. Why? Because you’re focused on placing new coaches on your weak leg, your existing coaches on that leg will benefit because you will be placing many coaches under them, just as long as you are still building their outside leg.
When one leg is stronger than the other this is a HUGE motivational tool. Because when coaches see one leg building up with volume points, they want to add coaches to the other leg to take advantage of the team cycle bonus. If you place coaches this way, EVERYONE wins!
So remember…ALWAYS build FAR AND WIDE and teach YOUR coaches to do the same thing!
I’m signing up a new coach! How do I know what side to put them on??
Everyone has their own strategy for where to put coaches..and there really isn’t a right or wrong way–AS LONG THEY GO ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR LEFT OR RIGHT LEG. Some coaches prefer to put their discount coaches on one side, but at the end of the day it can be hard to predict what someone is going to do (or not do) with their coaching business. But in general, I recommend focusing on building your rank FIRST, and then once that happens you can work on maximizing your team cycle bonus by putting the majority of your new coaches on your weaker side.
If you’re not sure where to put a new coach, contact your upline sponsor and he/she may be able to give you some advice.

TODAY’S HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
1. Log into your online office and make sure your preferred coach placement is set to either LEFT or RIGHT.
2. Check your graphical genealogy for the red bowling pin to make sure that your preferred coach placement has been set correctly. Do you perhaps have some people in your organization that you didn’t know were there? Depending on how long you’ve been a coach you may or may not have anyone else there yet.
3. Check your team volume to see if you have one side that has more volume than the other. Keep in mind that as an Emerald coach, you could be banking these points!
4. If you have any questions be sure to post them in the group and tag your coach. Again, this will make more sense as time goes on and especially after you start building a team.
