Before we dive into the details (like sharing your new biz with friends/family, Success Club, how to rank advance, your first challenge group, etc.) I think it’s important to address the #1 secret to success as an Independent Team Beachbody Coach.
Believe it or not, but that secret is YOU!!
The belief you have in yourself and the business will always be the #1 asset you have as the CEO of your company.
If you’ve done P90X you know Tony Horton says GET YOUR MIND RIGHT.
And Shaun T is all about the power of a positive mindset too!
The same is true for your Beachbody business!
Funny how that works, eh? 🙂

I know at this point that probably doesn’t sound very exciting, but YOU and YOUR MINDSET are the determining factors of whether or not you will succeed or fail! Unfortunately there is no magic pill, secret sauce or Staple’s EASY button. No special selling strategy or technique.
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO WHAT YOU BELIEVE OF YOURSELF AND THIS OPPORTUNITY.
BELIEF, not talent or skill, is going to make or break you in this business. Yes, there are definitely a few basic skills that you need to learn, but that’s just a tiny piece of the puzzle.
I would say it works out to be about 45% BELIEF 45% DETERMINATION and 10% SKILL. If you have the belief and determination nothing will stop you from learning the skills you need to improve.

Everyone is blessed with a different skillset coming into this business. When you first become a coach you might not be ready to step outside your comfort zone because you’re still learning the ins and outs of how everything works. That’s OK! In the beginning just focus on your strengths. Even John Maxwell says, “To be successful, you need to be doing what you’re good at.”
I’m an introvert and am still VERY insecure when it comes to speaking due to a stuttering problem I developed in first grade. That’s just who I am. Do I sound like the perfect match for a network marketing business? Um…NO! I could easily use that as an excuse, but my belief in myself and the business is so strong I made the commitment not to let it stand in my way.
Avoid Poison “Envy” and Comparing Yourself to Others
Often times when we look at someone who is super-successful it’s easier to see where they are now and not where they came from. We also don’t take into consideration the time and effort they invested to get to where they are now. We only see the “highlight reel.”

In fact, you can make “excuses” for just about any successful Beachbody coach out there. I’ve heard a lot! Including, “No wonder Wayne Wyatt is so successful, he’s got a million views on YouTube!” or “No wonder Jenelle Summers is so successful, she’s Chalene Johnson’s sister!” or “No wonder Lindsay Matway is so successful, she’s so pretty!” and on and on and on…
The truth is, despite the fact that there are life circumstances that may be unique to each person, the difference between success and failure is MINDSET.
More often than not, you and the super-successful coach are not much different.
If you listen to their stories you’ll find out that they all did their time, invested in themselves, worked on having a positive mindset, and NEVER GAVE UP even when all seemed down and out.
If you believe other successful coaches are lucky or their situation is easier, you need to SNAP out of it and change your thinking right now! You have lots of mentors here to help you succeed, but at the end of the day YOU have to take ownership of YOUR business.
The leaders in this business all have ONE thing in common…not their age, education level, skills or personalities…just the burning desire and willingness to do whatever it takes! If they see an obstacle, they can’t wait to overcome or solve it!
You MUST have a mindset that is SO strong you will not accept excuses from yourself.
I don’t want to burst your bubble, but you WILL run into obstacles along the way. And the one thing that separates the super-successful coach from the one who never reaches their goals is that the super-successful coach chooses to climb over obstacles like they aren’t even there, and the other coaches look at obstacles as an excuse to quit.
This business is not too much different from working out. You either persevere or you quit. And I can tell you that if you persevere with every ounce of enthusiasm in order to give yourself the necessary excitement to do this business effectively you will NEVER want to quit!

Here’s a little tid-bit I picked up from YOUR FIRST YEAR IN NETWORK MARKETING by Mark Yarnell (the book is somewhat out-dated now but still has some good advice):
“As many of 95 percent of those who remain in this industry for ten years or longer, working steadily at building their groups, reach the highest pay level in their respective companies–so just don’t quit!”
The best way to do that is to constantly surround yourself with positive people and work on your personal development daily.
Here’s a few other things you can do:
- Avoid watching or reading the news. I know that probably sounds dumb but it’s helped me a lot! 🙂
- Focus on the FUTURE and picture yourself where you’re going. Not on past disappointments that limit your potential.
- Avoid negative people as much as possible or at least negotiate with them to avoid acting negatively around you. You know that HIDE or UNFOLLOW feature on Facebook? Don’t be afraid to use it!
You might not need to do any personal development at your current job, but when you decide to become the CEO of your own company and lead other people, you better be ready to make some changes. Your business will eventually plateau the same way your body does when you keep doing the same workout routine over and over again.
Your business grows at the same rate as your personal development.
Our teammate Robyn had a great post on Facebook that I had to share.
She said, “It takes a lot of giving to give, and you can’t give what you are not filled up with!”
I think that makes a lot of sense!
When I first became a coach I didn’t think I needed any of that personal development stuff. All I wanted were the “action steps”! Gimme the steps to success! But I learned quickly that personal development is NOT an option in this business.
Former two-time Top Coach Wayne Wyatt said something at the Success Club conference in Disney World that will always stick in my head.
He said, “When most new coaches start the business they ask “What do I need to DO?” But a better question is, “Who do I need to BE?”
That’s pretty powerful stuff!

Take a look at some of the coaches out there that are improving their lives by sharing this business and Beachbody products with others. They are quitting their full-time jobs, spending more time with family, taking trips, paying off their mortgage, building dream-homes, donating money to charity, etc.
You need to believe in this opportunity because it is HUGE!
So how do you get that belief if you don’t have it yet??
To be a successful coach you need to believe in yourself, the company and your team.
You will learn more HOW-TOs as you go through today’s homework assignment.
But I’m a huge fan of using SMALL WINS to build confidence + belief…in both fitness + business.
Some examples of small wins include starting and completing a program, drinking Shakeology daily, finishing a personal development book and telling someone else about it, watching or listening to a training and putting into ACTION the things you learn, or hosting a free 7-day challenge group with your family and friends, etc. etc.
Believe it or not, but you can develop self-confidence and belief just like any other skill.
It’s not that some people are “born with it” and others aren’t.
OK! So here we go….
TODAY’S HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Since this is THE #1 MOST IMPORTANT thing you need to know as a coach I’ve got several things for you to watch and listen to today. 🙂
1. This TEDx Talk video explains more about developing the “skill” of self-confidence. Don’t forget–if you have the belief and determination NOTHING will stop you from learning the skills you need to improve! (13:21)
After you watch the video I encourage you to write a “brag sheet” or a letter to yourself as described by Dr. Ivan Joseph.
2. In this video Top Coach Melanie Mitro gives some great advice on how to develop a long-term vision for your business. Even if your goal isn’t to earn a million dollars these are good things to focus on! (10:25)
3. One of my favorite coaches Trina Gray (she’s from Michigan too!) did a National Wakeup Call recently on the Three Core Beliefs of Beachbody Coaching. I recommend you set aside some time to sit down and really focus on this one. (40:00) You can forward to around the 8 minute mark to skip the outdated announcements.

FOR MY PERSONALLY SPONSORED COACHES
Once you’re done watching and listening I would love to hear your fave takeaways from today’s lesson and homework assignment.
Please post your thoughts and/or questions in our Team365 group under the DAY 1 SMART START post.
Don’t worry, you don’t need to write a novel…just a couple key points would be great! 😀
