Wow, I just realized as I sat down to start writing this post that today is Day 30 of my first round of the P90X Extreme Home Fitness Program. Yikes! Yesterday was my first day of Week 5 and my first time doing the Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps workout. Since I didn’t know what to expect I used 5 pound weights for all the exercises which was a good call because they were pretty tough. Although I could maybe see myself using 10 pound weights for a couple of the exercises next week. A few of them were a little awkward and I think I’ll need to do a little review before next week. The push-ups in this workout are definitely in the “advanced” category. Can we say modified version?
The one thing I really liked about this workout is that all the exercises are different. You don’t have to repeat sets like you do in most of the other strength training workouts. I also figured out why Tony likes to pick on Phil so much (ever notice he doesn’t leave the poor guy alone in X Stretch?) . . . I think it’s because Phil might be a little stronger than Tony. Muscle envy.
I really seem to be making progress with Ab Ripper X. I still can’t keep up with the crew but I’m hitting PAUSE less often and I almost have the Oblique V-Ups figured out. I can’t do them with my legs extended straight out but I can do a modified version where I bend them in closer to my chest. This way I can at least do something instead of laying there like a paralyzed fish. I think having a week off from Ab Ripper X helped in the mental department too.
Today Plyometrics was the toughest it’s ever been, probably because I’m getting stronger and working harder. For the past couple weeks I bounced between 121 and 119 on the scale. I’m not sure if I should continue weighing myself everyday. I understand that muscle weighs more than fat but we all like to watch that number go down. I would love to be between 110 and 115 eventually, but I’m not sure what my body’s going to do. I definitely feel different 30 days into it. I can’t imagine the changes 60 days from now. It probably sounds weird, but my ankles are smaller. 🙂 Also, yesterday I wore shorts and while I was doing Ab Ripper X I didn’t recognize my legs for a split second because they looked well . . . thinner. Hmph!
So, all is good here in P90X-land and I will continue to press play.
