Wow. So a couple days ago I had my first encounter with Core Synergistics. I was expecting this workout to be tough. But not that tough! Let’s just say–it was the first time I ever felt sick to my stomach during a workout and wanted to cry. I think it started somewhere between the Sphinx push-ups and Bow to Boat. However, I decided to do my best and forget the rest and somehow managed to make it through the entire workout including the bonus round.
I think it’s totally hilarious that some people think recovery week is something they can breeze through or perhaps even skip over because there are no weight-training or resistance exercises. Ha! Recovery week is just as much an essential part of the P90X program as the rest of it. Skip over it and you’ll be sorry later on. As much as I hated the Core workout, I can’t wait to try it again tomorrow. Your core muscles is really what it’s all about it. Because everything else connects itself from there!
I think the timing of Core Synergistics is pretty tricksy too. You’ve made it to Week 4 . . . you’re feeling pretty confident about yourself . . . maybe a little too smug . . . and then BLAM! they stick this workout in your face. It’s a little humbling and a good reminder that you still have a lot of work to do.
Today is X Stretch (can’t wait for that), tomorrow: Core, Saturday: Yoga, and Sunday I’ll do X Stretch again. Then, Monday comes Week 5 along with two more workouts I haven’t done before: Chest, Shoulders & Triceps, and Back & Biceps. I still want to do Doubles but my schedule might only allow me to do 2 days of Cardio X per week instead of 3. But I think that might work out better anyway!
Another thing: I’m really appreciating the Yoga portion of the program. I can’t say that I enjoy it yet, but I can tell that it’s making a difference in terms of my strength and flexibility. So, whatever you do: DON’T SKIP YOGA!
